I recorded about 3 hours of footage in AVCHD format the other night and need to put on tape for my client. I recorded in HD. Final product will be a DVD. It’s not necessary for the tape to be in HD format.

Whats the quickest way to make this transfer? Is it possible to record from my Sony AX2000 direct to my FX1? Or do I need to pull into Vegas, convert, then print to tape?

    Thanks in advance.

What tapes can your client read? Do they have an FX1 to read the HDV tape because not all HDV cameras can read each others HDV tapes like in the DV days. You should be certain what tape formats your client can read before you look for a solution.

BTW, it makes no sense to print a tapeless format to tape just to give it someone. Put in on a Blu-ray data disk, or thumb drive, or portable hard drive instead.

Actually my client recorded with us and he recorded on regular DV tape using a Sony HD1000. I also used my FX1.

Duh, I never thought about just giving him the raw files on Blu-ray or other media type. I was focused on him capturing from his camera and didn’t think otherwise.

    Thanks for your help.

I just found out he actually wants them converted to Quicktime format.

[Mac McGinnis] “I just found out he actually wants them converted to Quicktime format.”

I would tell him that it will cost extra for the conversion. You’re goin to tie up your editing workstation for a long time rendering AVCHD to QuickTime.
