  • AVCHD imports jittery on FCP, but OK on iMovie

    Hi folks
I’m importing HD footage (AVCHD) from Sony HDR-SR11 Handycam.
It’s NTSC footage. When the footage imports to FCP (in Quicktime)
it plays buggy, frames jump back and the whole thing looks like
an episode of “When Drop Frames Attack”.

I tried “All” (namely 2) import codecs: Apple Intermidate and Pro Res422.
Both resulted in the same unusable footage.
I also ticked the “Drop Frame” box.

And as always, when FCP FAILs, I tried importing the same footage on iMovie. Came out perfect, complete with files names etc.

Anyone else had problems importing AVCHD footage ?

    My system: MacPro2 / FCP 6.0.5 / iMovie 09

What hard drive array are you using?

I’m not using a HD array, I’m just capturing to the MacPro’s internal SATA HD (1tb).

Also, the import is fine when I’m using my MacBook Pro (1st Generation), and capturing to FireWire 400 drives.

Hey I have the same problem. Tried all the codecs and the drop frame box, etc. but there is this program Voltaic HD which I read about on a macrumor forum on this topic that will convert the video but it takes up to 12 times as long which is no good. high quality and retains the 5.1 channel sound though. another downside is that its $30. lame. i hope apple releases some more codecs/is there a way to put other, working codecs into fcp? how come imovie will work and not fcp? is there a way to copy the settings from imovie to fcp?
