I’m unable to import AVCHD files from a folder containing all the files and folders copied from an SDXC card recorded on a Sony PXW-X70. Sony Catalyst Browse can see the clips, and can transcode. The clips are also visible in the camera. This is a new development. Previous backup folders work – either AVCHD or XAVC-L.

The card in question is a 64 GB Transcend SXDC. No inconsistencies were found in the “Repair Image Data Base File” in the camera. The card had been formatted in the camera. Material recorded later on the same day works (32GB card). In the Import window, the File Type shows as Media Folder, the others are just Folder. I restarted the Mac, trashed Preferences with Preference Manager, Uninstalled and reinstalled Catalyst Browse.

    Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Can the clips be played using Quicktime on the Mac? How about from VLC?

Although normally not a good idea, if you open the AVCHD package and copy out a couple of clips, can they be imported to FCP X?

If you have ClipWrap, it would be interesting to see if the problem clips are visible and can be transcoded. All these tests will help to determine is it an issue with FCP X or the files themselves.

I’ve since found the solution thanks to an X70 shooter on a dvinfo.net forum. You have to go into the folder structure and delete the XDROOT folder (providing you haven’t used XAVC CLIPS), et voilà, the clips now appear.
