AVCHD export.
Okay guys I have used fcp for 3 years now, and this is the first time i have used AVCHD. I have edited my film, and want to export it. I have attempted many different methods, and so far the best method (to keep file small) worked, only there were video trails during scenes where the camera pans left or right. I am not sure if im missing a crucial step?
my clip settings are matched to the sequence (automatically after log and transfer) the settings are as follows 29.97fps 1440×1080 Apple prores 422 data rate 14.6mbs pixel aspet is 1440×1080 HD. I would really like an explanation on what method would work best to get a smooth flowing export at a reasonable size. Thx -

AVCHD is an acquisition format, not really a deliverable. May Ia sk why you want to finish / output in AVCHD?
Are you trying to create a master file (AKA a mezzanine file) to base other encodes later on, from? Or, does this have a specific destination?
You should really look to a more robust codec for archival or a mezzanine format. ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 HQ, DNX 145 or higher, Cineform, etc. These are excellent choices, don’t degrade (as much) if used and edited later.
Another alternate may be h.264. That would give you a smaller file size, but is not the best for editing later on.

Sorry was a bit unclear, I am using AVCHD through log and transfer converting to prores, i am not exporting back to avchd, i am simply asking which method is best my test export with was 189 mb in size (7 min long) looked good, but when for example one of the actors jumps from the house to the ground in the playback viewer his fall was seemless and smooth, after export it was a little blurry. trailish to sound blunt. I just want to know the best way to export in general. Im new to flash drive cameras, i was using dv tape based ones before.

Thanks for the clarification.
The question still remains: what is the purpose of this video? That will determine the codec. Is this an export for web? iPhone? Or a master hi res file for archiving? All of my points from the original replay stand. Need to know what requirements you have so we can shoe-horn the encode to match that – “deliverables”.
I can make an assumption (crosses fingers) that if you are attempting to export AVCHD, and you are looking for a small file, that h.264 may be your best bet. That’s pretty common for smaller file sizes but retaining most of the quality. (However, that being said, it’s not best for a mezzanine file for further encodes later) Remember, there has to be a trade off somewhere – you want a smaller file size? Ya gotta deal with some compression artifacts.
So, we need more info.

Yes this will be for web, then later iphone. I will eventually need a master copy as well. The test export i used was h.264 and it looked great just not as smooth as it looked in the playback tap on fcp. The file was 189.6 mb so all in all i am happy with it, just im eager to learn how to make it perfect. I have never had actual training with fcp or video editing in general. Is there a way to show you my clip?
