    I am very much a beginner. While i have bee an Audeo/videophile for many years I’ve never attempted editing till now. I am ancious to learn.

    What i need help with is the best way to accomplish my intended uses. I will do simple editing of family video shot on my Sony HDR-SR1, shot at 1080i/AVCHD and then will want to be able to do the following;

    – Burn files to Bluray disc for archiving & possible play in a Bluray player
    – Also create digital files on my Server on my home network for archiving AND to stream thru my projector in my Home Theater. I will use my Vaio AW-190 Notebook connected via HDMI. From my Vaio Notebook I would like to be able to simply go into the server on my network, select the video i want to watch and play it without having to 1st move the file to the vaio.

    – It’s important to keep the file in it’s original 1080i…I don’t want to downconvert it.

    The big problem I’m having now is that I don’t know what the best codec is to rendr to. Windows Media player doesn’t play all of the files and tjhose it will, it first says it may play it, though it doesn’t recognize it.

    ANY and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

    Thank you.
