I’m assuming that you’re referring to native AVC Intra support for native editing. Not sure.

I’m not sure many people are expecting a major feature update with the new operating system. When FCP does support it natively, it should probably be an intel only feature like AVCHD or ProRes.

I’m just interested in the ability to transcode it into another codec. (Like ProRes)
Is there any possible way to transcode AVC Intra without bringing it in the old fashioned way?
If you could transcode it then you could work with it on a laptop in the field.

Everyone at Panasonic keeps insisting support for AVC-Intra from Apple is just around the corner. While no one is predicting native support (like the Edius 4.5 offers), they are talking about a ProRes 4.2.2 import feature that will allow you to cut what your shooting.

As for timing, I’ve heard it hinges on Apple’s ability to patch some of Leopard’s many problems. That they’ll send out a Pro Applications update only when it addresses the compatibility issues their new system software has encountered.

A speaker at the P2 workflow conference at HD expo this past week in Burbank said he’s certainly expecting the release to come before the end of the year, but he couldn’t guarantee it.

I’ve heard about beta samples of the patch having been demoed at some film festivals and at NAB, but this is not a big enough problem for apple to release this functionality separately.

Hope this news helps, though, no one would ever call this good news.
