Hey i’m trying to export/edit to tape from FCP to a Sony HDV deck (GV-HD700/1) using a firewire cable. Does anybody know what settings I should be using to write onto the deck? I have a show that needs to go to CBS, and they prefer HDV mini tapes. My sequence was captured in 1080i60. They want it in 720×480. Not able to get the sequence onto tape. Help!

I am new to all this and really need some advise. I been trying every which way and need your help.

I’m not familiar with that deck, but I’ve had a look at the specs and there’s a couple of things to watch out for:

The deck appears to only record SD and not HDV, but that’s ok as 720 x 480 is SD. So from the FCP I’d export a SD 720 x 480 version of your cut and bring it back into FCP as a single file and play that out to the deck. You probably need to manually record a bit of black at the start of the new tape in order to assemble the new recording onto it.
