I’m so baffled as to how the company could have provided the script for the entire video.

Never used Dragon, but you could feed the line out to the line in on the PC, play the video and let Dragon “listen” to the movie.

Gilles, from reading various pro audio & video production forums, I know that they often send an mp3 file of an interview to a transcription firm who do this for you (for a fee, of course).
Call Trew Audio in Toronto at 416-778-0656 and see if they have any suggestions.
I googled “transcription services canada toronto” and got several hits so hopefully Trew can recommend one or more reputable companies.

I don’t have an immediate need for this. I heard of a production company offering the transcript and thought it could be something I could offer… if I knew how.

I wonder if that’s how they did it… got it transcribed manually by someone in-house of from another firm that specializes in this. I thought perhaps it could be automated.

You mean the movie studios? It’s called the script. But you still need an editor to correct the off-script text from the talent.

I’ve only had one client to want a transcription of an interview, and they had me send an MP3 file to a transcription service. I don’t know or care how they did it since the client specified and paid directly to the transcription service. I did get an edit list from the client based on the transcription, and it was interesting that the transcription included time points.

If the mp3 file that you send to a transcription service includes a proper timecode track, the transcription will include that in their report.
