In photoshop there are “actions” and automator plugins. Is there anything for AE that will let me perform a repeated task? One thing I like to do when working in 3d is to do a mock-up of my animation using solid layers. In order to know which layer I’m working on I like to make the layers different colors. So, I create one solid layer, duplicate it as many times as I need, and then, boringly, set the color of each to something different before I start to play with them? I’d like to be able to color the layers more quickly. Anybody got a faster way?

No recordable actions like PS, but you could do what you’re describing fairly easily with a script.

Awwww. I guess it’s really time for me to learn how to create scripts.

Or you could use soft like Quickeys: it records all your actions no matter what program you’re in, and allows you to play them back, (activated by hotkey, popupmenu, etc).

THANKS. You know, I downloaded a demo of Quickkeys because I used it years ago on my dos machine and I heard Walter Murch mention, at a LAFCPUG event that he uses it. But I couldn’t make it work. Maybe I didn’t give it a chance.
