I’m trying to auto-trace alpha after a quick key. It looks good in the preview, and every frame gets processes, but the result is an empty layer in the timeline. There’s a new solid in the project window, but when dragged to the timeline this solid shows nothing either.

    Vague, I know.

I did set for apply to new layer. I’ve done this before without a hitch. Feels like a glitch. I get some pretty funky results when don’t apply to new layer as well. Might be time for a reinstall.

I’ve done that tutorial. It’s a good one.

When auto-tracing and applying to a new layer, the new layer should appear directly above the layer you are auto-tracing when it is finished. Select the layer and hit M, you should see all the masks it has created based on your auto-trace.
I’ve also seen strange problems happen with auto-trace when only using a portion of a clip, say a 3 minute clip and you’ve trimmed it to one minute. Auto-tracing the entire clip, then pre-comping and trimming that seems to work.
