Auto setting for transcoding in Encore CS5

this is no issue, it´s the way adobe decided encore should work.

but to change the transcoding-setting of your project is the first thing you should do, when you create a new project.

therefor you need to set the default-transcoding-settings.

It is not a answer on my question.

The max transcoding rate set to 9.4 Mbps,

Video Transcoding: Codec: MPEG-2

Dimension: 720×480

Frame Rate: 29.97

Fields: Lower Field First

Audio Transcoding: Dlby Digital.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit,
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (overclocked to 4.5GHz),

9.4Mbit/s is much to high unless you are going to create a replicated disc.

for recordable media you should not use more than 8.5Mbit/s (incl. audio).

I do not know why encore works as it works – I´m no programmer, but I think the adobe-guys are smart enough to tell you.

unless you haven´t got enough content, your disk wont be filled completely.

Maybe, but I allways did this way, and my 10year old DVD player reads thouse discs whith out any problem, and in 10 year any complains from the costomers. So maximum 9.4Mbit/s has nothing to do to my issue – why Encore CS5 creats .ISO file, DVD disc or DVD folder allways 3.92GB even with automatic setting for all assets.

In my first line in this post I say: “Creatig DVD 1 hour 45min with menu”. Is it not enough content to trsnscode to 4.7(4.37)GB?

I am not programmer eather, that is why I askin for help on this forum. And Adobe-guys are not answering on my question. I posted this same quetion on Adobe forum – no anwers.

1. the best way of authoring a DVD or BD is to encode your assets !!prior!! you start authoring. forget about automatically set bitrates and automated transcodings – do it your own!

2. if you have a duration of 105min. that will result to 5,5Mbit/s target-rate (if you are using AC-3 audio@192kbit/s) to not overfill your disc.

encore do not use CBR, it will use a VBR-transcoding, so if you set your transcoding to 9.4Mbit/s I guess it will be using 5.0Mbit/s, so it will not fill the disc completely. 9.4MBit/s is the peak-rate for your transcoding-setting.

3. again – 9.4 Mbit/s is much to high for DVD-R/+R (even if it is peak-rate-value) , if you had luck or not, this could only be used with replicated DVDs.

in your specific case 9.4Mbit/s would result in too much date for your DVD-5.

Dear Thank you, Danny, your responses in this thread have been helpful.
My question: I once heard that the bit rate for DVD should be set high at 7.2 and low at 5.5 (referring to DVD Studio Pro). I am using Encore. In the setting there are the Max and Min and a Target. The DVDs I am doing will be replicated and for the most part will not be more than an hour. Can you suggest a ball park setting.

ciao dom,
if the most DVDs you are authoring do not exceed 60min. don´t think about VBR (and all its values). that´s what could be done with CBR at 7.8Mbit/s and 192kbit/s AC-3-audio.

don´t waste your time on thinking about other options – that makes no sence.
