Auto Masking of static clip using a shot of it empty
Hey, I shot this crosswalk where I got the actors to walk 5 times in different locations in the frame. I was hoping to mask them all into a single shot where it would look like the crosswalk was really busy. However I can’t think of a way to mask these 5 x 5 second clips that wouldn’t take me 10+ hours.
My question is:
Is there a way to tell DaVinci to track only what is new in the frame (in this case, the people walking) based off an empty reference frame? In DaVinci or After Effects or even Photoshop.

The Magic Mask will probably work for this if you have the Studio Version. Here’s a link to a tutorial.

Try to use a difference keyer in Fusion. You need to denoise your footage before keying, and you can combine it with the magic mask for better results. You probably will need some roto anyway, but mostly for the garbage mattes.

I was never too happy with the results of a. difference map.
But since DR is pretty good at tracking a Power Window, you could just stack the other clips, give each one an alpha output and use such a window for the person, with a soft edge to hide it.
