March 4, 2008 at 1:17 amYou need to activate the “pan behind tool”. You can do this by pressing “y” on your Keyboard and then manually move the anchor point to the centre of your layer.Remember all animations applied to the layer will animate from the anchor point such as scaling, tracking etc.
For a full list of Keyboard shortcuts see keyboard shortcuts under the help menu within AE or just click on the following link

March 4, 2008 at 1:33 amTo my knowledge there isn’t an easy way to center the anchor point vertically on the text. The way to do it horizontally is to go to the Paragraph panel and choose to center align the text.

March 4, 2008 at 12:58 pmand if you want to center the anchor point vertically with the text, you’ll need to adjust the ‘baseline’ in the character palette.

I use this scrip at lease 20 times a day. Very simple but so useful. It moves your anchor point to the middle, the corners, or the sides without messing up your animations.

January 9, 2016 at 7:53 pmThe answer is simpler than all of these responses!
- Right click on layer, Transform > Center Anchor Point in Layer Content
Done!
