I want to be able to record audio in-the-field using my iPod (20GB iPod Photo) and then import that into FCP Studio and edit into projects.

First of all, for audio recording, all I have found is the Belkin Microphone adapter. If I use this, with one of those $20 Plantronics Mic/Headsets, will the audio quality be good suitable enough? Would a more expensive mic help?

The iPod specs say that it will record at 16-bit and 8khz.

Second, will I be able to import those audio files into FCP?

its fairly poor quality, but it can be done. 8khz is about the quality of an old telephone.

you need to use Quicktime Pro, iTunes or Compressor to convert the audio to 16 bit 48khz Stereo AIFF.
