  • Audio Question when rendering

    Hi Vegas Pros,

    I using Vegas Pro8. When I render to avi, Mpeg or .mov and go to Custom to change my audio type, the only option is PCM Uncompressed. Where’s AC-3?
    Any Ideas anyone?

    Ralph, AC-3 is a separate render option in the “Save as type:” box.
    The only time I use it is for audio when I’m doing DVDs.

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for the reply. Do you prefer the “Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro or the Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio” when burning DVD’s? What’s the difference between the two?

    Thanks

    Ralph, I always use the “Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro preset, probably because, for the longest time, it was the only one available and I’ve gotten used to it.
    I’ve also created a custom preset for it (for more closely matched volume levels – see below) which the the “Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio” preset doesn’t allow you to do.
    Having said that, the “Studio” version does have an AGC option so maybe this takes care of this problem.
    I’m sure there are other limitations but that’s the only one that comes to mind right now.

    Here’s the custom AC-3 preset I use:
    Encode set to AC3;
    Click on custom tab;
    Dialog normalization: -31 dB;
    Dynamic range compression: None;
    On the first tab set diag. norm to “-31”;
    On the last tab marked preprocessing;
    Set the Line Mode & RF mode profiles to “None”;
    Now save this as a preset.
