Audio problems when export for Sony Xdcam Disks
Hi Guys,
First sorry about my english! I’m editor from Brazil. And I have a problem when I`m exporting from FCP for Sony Xdcam HD Disks! The voice from actors will go in just one audio channel. In camera this audio was recorded as mono! When I go to audio mixer and click in “downmix” button it seems that works, I listen the mono audio in the two channels, I export in quicktime and works very well! But when I export to Sony XDCAM HD, surprise!!! the audio from the actors is just in one channel, and I need to be on stereo! Please someone help-me!

Hi Tancredo,
Open the Sequence Setting and set “Audio Setting> Config> Stereo Downmix.

Here is the Sony XDCAM Whitepaper. Page 16 describes the procedure on how to export a master back to the disc (in english sorry).

If you have VO only on track 1 when you export to XDCam in Dual Mono Mode A1 will be ISO’d to Track 1 on the disc thus giving you VO only on one channel. Before we Master back to XDCam disc we first export the entire show audio tracks to how we want them ( In your case to start it should be stereo) then we edit back the new stereo audio so when we set our Audio Sequence Settings to Dual Mono track 1 goes to Left and track 2 goes to RIght and the VO is in both channels.
Also remember to set the tracks of Channel 3, 4, etc in your sequence to where you want them to go on the XDCam disc. That is something that is not mentioned in the Whitepaper.

thanks for your explanation, if I understand correctly, you said to me edit the audio outside the FCP in a audio software. I’ve been doing this, but I want to resolve this problem inside FCP.
