  • Audio playback during digitizing

Posted by Hordex on October 28, 2006 at 1:39 am

So after 12 years of editing as a freelancer I now have my first edit suite and I have a dumb question. I’m digitizing through firewire and I know that audio is getting through. The only problem, I can’t hear it. I’m running my FCP Studio on a Mac Book Pro 17″ with 2 gigs of ram. The compressor I’ve chosen to digitize at is Uncompressed 8-bit. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your time

    Peter,

There’s a checkbox in the log and capture window. It’s in the Clip settings tab, under audio, labeled “preview”. It’s off by default. Check it and you’ll get audio monitoring while digitising.

Less taxing (and not out of sync) I’d plug speakers into the deck or camera

Roland makes a nice pair with two inputs (one mini for the computer and one RCA for the lower end deck or camcorder).

Thank you all for your replies. Right after I wrote that thread, I picked up the FCP manual, and sure enough, there it was in black and white, “Preview” button.

Just goes to show what can be accomplished by picking up the manual. 🙂

We’re all here to help, mate, but the manual should always be your first stop.

I can’t count the number of times I have answered this same question in the last two weeks.

Anyhow, glad we could help – and don’t hesitate to post again… once you’ve glanced at the manual 🙂
