Audio offset when exporting to Protools
Posted by Martin Leroy on August 8, 2014 at 8:09 pmHello,
I have trouble exporting my edit from FCPx to Protools. I can find back my clips in Protools, but a weird random offset happens, it’s not the good parts of the sounds at all…
I noticed my sounds are interpreted as 60fps inside FCPX and I suspect it comes from there.
Anybody have the same situation?
Is there any way to tell FCP to interpret the audio TC differently? Many Thanks

August 9, 2014 at 7:20 amYes I am using x2pro.
I also tried Xto7 to make an omf out of FCP7 and I have an offset as well.
Although when I open the .fcpxml in Resolve everything is fine.
Weird. -

August 9, 2014 at 11:00 amMaybe try re-exporting an AAF (or even OMF or XML) from Resolve. But it will more than likely be due to the fps discrepancy, yes.

August 9, 2014 at 11:08 amI tried to export XML from Resolve.
When re-imported in FCP7 I also have an offset, but completely different from the one I have when I don’t go through Resolve…Why is FCPx always displaying sounds TC as 60fps? Is there any way to change that?

I wouldn’t say “always”. That’s simply the fps it will in fact been recorded at, i.e. what the recoding device was set to.

August 9, 2014 at 12:49 pmAudio are wave files coming from a Pro Tools. (48kHz 24bit)
I’m cutting a trailer for a feature film. Audio guys gave me Stems from the master. -

August 9, 2014 at 12:53 pmAudio files are coming straight of a 24fps Protools session.
Whatever sound I try importing in FCPx seems to be interpreted as 60fps. -

August 9, 2014 at 1:37 pmI would have to check some Protools stems when I get back to the office, but I’m pretty sure that the tc is usually read correctly and I know tc is read from sound devices recorders.
If you bring the stems in to fcp7, do you get better tc?
Do you have any retiming in your sequence? Do you get any errors when you make the AAF in x2pro?

August 9, 2014 at 1:48 pmIn FCP7 audio files are interpreted as 30fps
No retiming and the only error in x2pro are two ignored effects. It might come from here?
