I have a sequence that is a collection of clips. I am doing a voice over but I want to lower the sound of the sequence during my voice over. I’ve been doing this by manually lowering the decibel level of each clip in my sequence, is there a way to lower the level of a highlighted area without affecting the master level so the voice over decibel level isn’t affected?

    Many Thanks

Select all the clips you want to adjusts and choose Modify>>Levels (or Command+Option+L)

You can adjust the Gain in the slider that appears. The two choices (Relative/Absolute) mean the following:

Relative: adjusts all clips relative to what they are currently set at. ie – a clip at 10db will go to 4db if you enter “-6”

Absolute: sets all clips to whatever level you enter. ie – a clip at 10db will go to -6db if you enter “-6”

    Hope that helps.

Highlight all the clips you want to adjust then hit control + or – to raise and lower dB. It helps to have keyframe overlays turned on so you can keep track of the relative volume levels.
