  • Audio Mix and Camera Audio Won’t Stay in Sync

    Hi All

I am in the process of putting the final touches on a multicam edit of some concert footage. Yesterday I got a mix that the audio people at the show had done of the show. I was planning on using this instead of the audio captured from my camera which was connected to the soundboard.

The problem I am having is that over the course of the 1 hour and half the audio mix goes 13 frames out of sync.

My first question is, is this a common problem? They are both at a sample rate of 48, so I assume that has nothing to do with it, right?

If, so, would anyone have any thoughts on how I could fix it?

I brought it into Soundtrack Pro with the plan of doing a very tiny time stretch on it- like 99.7%, however it just wouldn’t process this.

Does any one have any other ideas?

Thank you all very much or any help you can offer,
    It is much appreciated. Thanks!
    John

First thing to do is go to http://www.spherico.com, look around there. (Andreas has written a lot of audio sync problems in FCP, perhaps his help section on BWFtoXML will give you aa answer.
If not, just cut out 1 frame every 7 minutes in a place that allows it (typically applause after a song..)
Quick and dirty, but it does the job.

    Hi John,

Yes I have had a similar problem but over a much shorter time frame, say 10 mins = ten frames out.

Audio will not stretch to fit however video will.

I would try to use the Fit To Fill tool.

Firstly import your audio into the timeline, select your in & out points.

Then set your in/out points at the same points on the Video track then insert your footage using the fit to fill and it should squeeze/stretch the time to fit.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the help.

I ended up just cutting out 1 frame every six minutes. Still not sure why that happens though. I thought digital equipment was perfectly synchronized.

    Thanks! John
