When I searched the archives, I found this exact same complaint detailed by scottfcp on Jul 5, 2006 at 1:02:45 pm.

It was discussed but not resolved. I’m bringing it up almost a year later because I’m having the exact same problem. The audio captured from a CD jumps around with no clear reason. I sync it up and everything is perfect. When I finish the rest of the edit and go back to check the finished product, the audio track that underlies the spoken word doesn’t line up anymore. What’s going on?

One suggestion was to re-render everything in 48k. I’m just naive enough to think that FCP should work as advertised. It doesn’t seem to be doing that.

Delete all of your audio render files and try again. It is best if you transcode your 44.1 file to 48k before importing to FCP. That way, FCP doesn’t have to do the real time render when playing out to 48k and 48k is what it wants to work the best anyway.

I’ve had this happen a few times when I had a lot of tracks going…to me it’s a sign that I have to delete old renders, dump preferences, do a quick disk maintenence, and restart…then it’s usually fine.
