Audio is syn in fcp timeline, but out of syn in exported Quicktime movie
I am exporting a three hours video. The exported quicktime video’s audio goes out of sync in some parts in playback while it is completely sync in fcp timeline. I use my mac computer to edit and playback. I opened the exported quicktime movie in QT, VLC and MPEG Streamclip apps. The audio was out of syn in some parts in all of them. Any hints is appreciated.

Frame size: 1280 x 720 HDTV 720p (16×9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Field Dominance: None
Editing Timebase: 29.97
Compressor: H.264Audio Settings:
Rate: 48 kHz
Depth: 16-bit

If you are editing H264 directly in FC, that’s one of the things that may happens.
H264 is not supported by FC.

what codec would be good instead of H.264?

As David said.
Anyway, if you have all your edit already finished, try changing your sequence codec by Prores, and render all YUV in 8b YUV or high precision YUV.
If you are lucky the audio won’t get off sync.

Hi Mahmoud,
I’ve had the same problem. I got a project with different frame rates and codec’s. I didn’t know the solution back then, but I just nested the sequence in another (DV codec, it was to produce a DVD) and renderd. That did the trick.
I later learned it has to do not all audio files have the frame rate in it and then FCP picks it standard setting, And that can cause drifting. See link below for a explanation how to solve it.

Thank you Dave. I have one more question regarding FCP, but this time FCP X. I have FCP 7 installed in my macbook pro. I want to install and edit a project with FCP X. I’d like to have FCP7 in my computer and use it whenever needed. I was wondering if both FCPs (7 and X) may conflict if they are installed in the same machine.
Any hint is appreciated.
