OK – I imported an avi into 6.0 pro and the waveform is there but I can’t get it to play back audio. Is there a setting I’m missing somewhere? Thanks.

There are two ways to play back audio in the timeline, assuming the layer has audio enabled using the little speaker button in the timeline:

    1. Press the . key on the numeric keypad
    2. Make a RAM preview, making sure the little speaker button in the time controls palette is enabled.

You can also scrub audio by holding down the ctrl (cmd on mac) key and dragging the current-time indicator. I believe this does not work with MP3s. By the way, it’s best to convert all MP3s to WAV or AIFF if they need to be used in AE.

For more info, search the help under “RAM preview” and “previewing audio”.
