Audio does not insert along with video from source window when insert or overlay icon is clicked
Posted by John Gilkey on August 30, 2011 at 3:06 pmI have started work on a project and have been inserting clips from the source window in Premiere Pro CS5 x64. The clips are all from the same camera using AVCHD compression. Everything has gone without a hitch until the other day when all of the sudden only video is sent to the timeline when I click on the insert or overlay icons below the source window. I can drag the clip and both audio and video go to the timeline but I cannot send them there using either the insert or overlay icon. I have obviously changed something somewhere. I simply cannot find out where. Any help will be appreciated.

August 30, 2011 at 4:38 pmHi John,
I have the same problem in CS5, all of a sudden the sound won’t insert/overlay in the timeline. It’s so frustrating and it’s slowing me. This never happened to me before and I can’t figured out what has changed. I remember saving the file and then browsing through the clips in the source window. Does anyone know what happened?

August 30, 2011 at 6:24 pmI imagine you’ve already been through the following, but just in case:
– Are your audio tracks active (hilighted)?
– Is your audio the correct kind (mono for mono, stereo for stereo, etc)?
– Do you have your source-thingamabob (the “A1” “A2” etc tabs on the left of the timeline) set for the correct audio track?Ben Unguren

August 30, 2011 at 6:51 pmThanks for the response Bob. This is a case of all the clips coming from the same camera. Same AVCHD compression codec. One day you could load a clip into the source window, set in and out points and hit the insert or overlay icon and linked audio and video would go to the timeline. The next day and ever since only video goes to the timeline. To me it seems like a software switch has flipped somewhere. I can drag the clip to the timeline and it comes with video and audio. However, if you click on the insert or overlay icons only video comes to the timeline. It’s like dragging the video only icon to te timeline.

August 30, 2011 at 7:17 pmI have noticed that in the source window frame, even though there is audio and video, only the filmstrip icon appears beneath the video next to the “Fit” pull-down box. Normally both the filmstrip icon and speaker icon appear there. Any thoughts?

September 1, 2011 at 6:29 pmSorry, friend — no idea. I’ve never had that issue, so I can’t quite say what’s happening. Upload a screenshot if you like, and I’ll see if anything stands out….

October 24, 2011 at 6:23 amI have the same problem, running new Premier 5.51.
I can’t even insert or overlay the same clip into itself. This is a bug Adobe. You need to fix it for us ASAP!!!

November 10, 2011 at 8:01 pmIf you highlight the panel(s) just left to the first clip in the timelne (labeled Video 1 and Audio 1, in my case) by clicking on an empty area there, then all is fine. Highlighting only the video or only the audio panel, then only the video, or only the audio will be inserted (or overlayed). (If highlight neither of them, then just an “empty clip”will be inserted.)

April 26, 2012 at 4:04 amthe previous answer is correct.
i started incurring this problem except only audio was inserting.
i then realized i had unselected my video track for some reason (to edit something). then the light went on.
i re-selected video two over on the left side of the timeline and viola, everything was properly inserting from the source window (you can download a screenshot below)
