I received some AVI files recorded by a contractor. They went live to tape from a switcher and audio board to hard drive. Not sure what device they actually used to record – I have a request for more details.
When you play the AVI through windows explorer, premiere or soundbooth, there is a clicking at full volume at a constant rate.
Sounds like something that happened during recording, unless the file is somehow damaged.
    Anyone encounter something like this?

I can use Soundbooth to reduce the clicking by about 90%, but the resulting loss in volume means I need to boost the volume which brings back the remaining clicking.

Depends on what the click sounds like. Anyway it could be a windows click, you know that one you hear when a webpage keeps refreshing? I could tell right away if you posted a sample. Anyway, I would safely asume it is in the recording. It could be power too, anything with a thetmostat for eg. on the same outlet / breaker could cause it.

I’ve heard that sort of thing with mis-matched sample rates. Have you checked to see if Windows is trying to play a 48 KHz file at 44.1 KHz, or some such thing?

I found a solution by using VLC https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html – the default Windows Media player was not working and it really seemed like it was a formatting issue. I took the exact same file and opened it with VLC with no changes and VLC worked just fine where Windows Media Player audio did not work.
