  • ATTO R380 & PROAVIO EB8MS on MACpro

Posted by Fabio Rocchi on September 7, 2009 at 7:44 pm

    I’m new on this forum.
Today I installed a new ATTO ExpressSAS R380 on my new MacPro Nehalem 8 cores with Leopard (updated).
My storage system is PROAVIO EB8MS 4Tb miniSAS (2 cables) – totally new- .
The first time I tried to format the ProAvio to DVRAID mode, the ATTO CONFIGURATION TOOL crashes.
Now every time I try to access the ProAvio, the MacPro crashes.
My suspects are on Atto card.
Does someone use Atto R380 on new Mac Nehalem 8 core ?
    Any problem ?
    Thanks for the answers…

    Fabio,

Have you checked with ATTO by calling them or getting any kind of phone support?

ATTO Model No. ESAS-R380-000 Supports Snow Leopard. (from their website)

I would simply call ATTO or go ask them directly…

Yes, I’m discussing with Atto Technical Support (very fast and professional) about that.
I’m interested if it is only a problem from my MacPro or not…
    Thank you.

There is no problem with MAC Pro. You decided to get the least expensive solution, using the excellent ATTO R380 card. If ATTO can’t help you, call ProAVIO, and let us know how their customer support treats you. You dont’ use DVRAID, you use CUSTOM, and go thru the manual settings, to set this up. It is the responsibility of ProAVIO to assist you. I BEG YOU FABIO, contact ProAVIO support, and ask them to help you set this up. If you report back to me, and are still having problems, I will help you on this forum, but only if you report back to me on this forum.

Atto Web Support (very professional) said to me that there is an issue between Ati HD 4870 card (on MacPro Nehalem) and controller R380.
    Other customers reported this bug.
Techs from Atto are studing the problem.
As soon as possible I’ll report more about that.
    Regards
    Fabio

    Hi Fabio,

Did ATTO come back to you with an answer to your problem? We are in the process of building a new RAID system with exactly the same specification as you: ATTO R380, ProAvio EB8MS, and Nehalem processor 2009 Mac Pro.

I had been in contact with Atto Support for about one month.
I made several test with different cables, hard drives, a different graphic card (Nvidia Quadro FX4800 for Mac instead of Ati 4870), different raid settings.
    No way.
Finally I sent back Atto R380 to Technical Support.
Now I’m waiting to know the response.
Actually I don’t know if it was an R380 hardware issue, a MacPro hardware issue or something different.
Please, let me know if your configuration will work.
    Regards
    Fabio
