May 26, 2007 at 12:25 amAnd Dual 2.3 G5 also with PCIe.
Actually it is whole G5 lineup – last one before Intel, late 2005.
All of them got PCIe.
System profiler says just PCI, but in your manual says clearly PCI Express,
as it was announced in various articles when they were released.Mick

May 27, 2007 at 10:35 pmThe dual-core G5’s, (not just dual processors) were the first models to have PCIe (express). The dual-processor machines preceded those with dual-core processors.
There were no quad 2.7 GHz. After the dual-processor 2.7 came out–and it was PCI-X–came the 2.5 GHz dual-core machines, up to the Quad (two processors or dual-core each) at 2.5 GHz. These dual-core machines were the first G5’s to have PCI Express (PCIe). The speed of the processors actually when down when the dual-core chips were released.

May 29, 2007 at 12:50 pmHey Gang…
Just look in your “About This Mac”, “More Info…” under the little blue Apple at the top left of your main monitor. Click on “Graphics/Displays” and look to see what bus your system has.
If your G5 is an older first generation style like mine (G5 dual 2.7) that has PCI-X, you’ll need the X1900 GT card. If yours is the newer style PCI-e, the X1900 XT will be the card for you. Simple.
Look at the Apple Store and look under Displays. You’ll find the ATI X1900 GT for older style G5 systems. If you are still having problems finding it… Here it is.
As for the original question… YES, the X1900 XT is the recommended card for color on any of the G5/Mac Pro systems.

May 29, 2007 at 3:18 pmThat card still says PCI-Express.
“Designed exclusively for PCI Express based Power Mac G5 systems, it will turn your computer into a sophisticated graphics workstation and a monster gaming machine.”
“System Requirements
Power Mac G5 PCI Express based system”Thanks for the information but I do not see where it will work in PCI-X or AGP.
