ATEM -1 for webcast. Theatre production and regional schools
Hi,
We are a small independent creative collective who are trying to experiment with webcasting cultural content from the city to remote Aboriginal audiences across Australia (ie theatre/music).
Have experience working with some Roland mixers, and a few goes with Tricasters systems.
However we are interested in understanding the Black Magic Design ATEM 1 workflow – ie. We get the camrera feeds, mix the vision, run graphics off a macbook pro (photoshop plug in etc) and then how to be get it to a streaming server (like WOWZA3)???
We are much better at the creative front end of this equation – getting the content produced…
Would love to get this gap resolved so we can get busy connecting audiences with content and new education ideas.

Send an SDI or HDMI feed into a computer with a capture card, and use an encoder application such as FMLE or QuickTime Broadcaster to send the stream to Wowza.

We do something very similar with high school educational clubs. Take a look at sending out of the ATEM via SDI or HDMI to a Teradek hardware encoder. It is very small (about the size of a converter box) and can be preconfigured so that it is very reliable. Also, you do not have to have another PC on the work surface.
We too use Tricasters, but the new generation (HD) is quite a bit more expensive than an ATEM and its supporting components.

Anyone familiar iwth Haiviison products inthis instance?
or perhaps better to stick with a black magic capture card to keep all teh gear uniform?appreciate it. Off to Tasmania for the next installment of this education stuff shortly!

I believe the Haivision is about $12,000 (the Makado)
