(Asus) R9 380 vs 390(x) for SVP 13?
GPUs and SVP, a well-worn (out) topic on many forums :)…
I built a computor a few months back with the following specs: Asus x99 motherboard, 6 core Intel, 16g ram specifically to run SVP.
I have been using an older gtx460 but would like to upgrade to a new ati/amd r9 series gpu. With the canadian dollar being at all time lows this has ‘inspired’ me to look at lower cost options.
My questions: what are the new r9 3xx equivalents to the r9 290 GPUs. Would a r9 380 be similar to the R9 290s? The 380s are less than half the price of a r9 390 here in canada.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Head on over to GPUBoss.com and view the comparisons for yourself. From what I can see, the R9 380 is not as good as the R9 290.

Thanks John! Pretty convincing stats.I guess I’ll bite the bullet and look for a r9 390 as these are readily available. Interestingly, even thought the 390 has twice the memory it doesn’t perform much diffrently than the 290.

Yea, the additional memory will come in hand when editing 4K video. The other specs are just slightly better which is why it performs about the same as the 290 but uses less power.
