Assigning transitions to batches of stills

Since you said “transition properties”, you must mean that have you slide 1 fading into slide 2 fading into slide 3, etc.
If you want to apply the same transition to all of them, select all the slides (Ctrl+A) and drop the new transition on the first dissolve.
All transitions will now be the new one.
If this isn’t what you want, please be more specific.

I inserted 4 photographs. Selected them all. Chose a transition. Dragged it to the end edge of the first photo. Accepted the properties by closing the window. Now the transition seems to have only applied to the transition between 1-2 and 3-4, but not 1-2-3-4. The transition between 2 and 3 is immediate.

The pictures have to overlap (dissolve) from one to another for the method I described to work properly.
If you had them butting up against each other, I’m not surprised it didn’t work for you.

I too have been attempting to put a slide show together and had unpredictable results applying transitions to all photos at once. For one thing, there was no plain old crossfade available and all of the available transitions were too distracting when used through the entire slide show.

I ended up reading the HELP and found that a far easier way to do it is simply go to OPTIONS > PREFERENCES > EDITING and set “New still image length” to whaever you want the total duration of each image to be. Then, check AUTMATICALLY “Automatically overlap multiple selected media” and adjust the “Cut-to-overlap conversion” parameter to the desired crossfade duration. Each still image added to the time line after setting these parameters will overlap by the “Cut-to-overlap” duration. The overlap is interpreted as a simple smooth crossfade.
