    Hello,
I’m missing something about converting aspect ratios.

I created a project where the “Capture Format” setting is set to HDV. I want to play the resulting video on a HD TV. As a test, I imported a video into a sequence which is a 640×424 (1.0) avi clip, and one that is a 640×480(1.0) wmv. I set the sequence to DV-NTSC Widescreen 48Hz 720 x 480(1.2121), and plopped both files into it.

When I ran the DVD, the expected happened. What the viewer sees is stretched and pulled like taffy as soon as the clip changes to a different aspect ratio. A pretty bad viewing experience.

Can someone point me in the direction of which setting I need to fix?

Thanks so much for your kind help.

In the bin, right click your video file, go to Modify > Interpret Footage, make sure they’re both set to square pixel. Even if you bring them into a widescreen sequence, Premiere will keep the viewable aspect ratio and counter-squeeze them to be encoded as widescreen.

Also, if you have a 16:9(1.2121) sequence make sure you export it as that aspect ratio as well. If you export it as normal DV(0.9) then it may be stretched weird.
