    Hi,

A client has been supplied to sets of footage – one says 1.85:1 Widescreen and 1.85:1 4×3 letterboxed…

My question is what is the difference – and is the widescreen anamorphic?

    Cheers,

When you say widescreen… it could be true widescreen (or anamorphic).

But when they say its 4×3 letterboxed, its a widescreen that is directly formatted for a 4×3 screen. In order to really understand what you client has you need to ask, is this true widesreen or is it letterboxed. And if they can’t tell you, you find out when you play it back on a monitor. True widescreen will make everybody tall and skinny.
