I have been asked to convert some material from a 4:3 aspect ratio to 19:9 – its been delivered as .VOB files on a dvd.

I have been using Mpeg Streamclip to extract the material, but i’m unsure which is the best way to alter the aspect ratio, whilst maintaining as high a quality as possible, before re-burning the material back to a dvd again.

I am working in PAL, so my thinking was to extract using a pal DVCPRO50 codec, set to 16:9, deinterlacing, highest quality setting.

Is there a better way to achieve the aspect ratio conversion?

Sounds pretty good so far, but I would suggest extracting to Uncompressed from a DVD. It will look much better in the long run.
