  • aspect ratio conflict with Premiere and Maya rendering

ok I’m confused. I was thinking about rendering a 3d animation reel in 720p widescreen aka 16X9 ratio (1.78:1)I can render this in Maya at 1280 pixels by 720. but there is no pixel ratio for this in Premiere Pro 2.0. I can choose the “Dv 24 Widescreen” but this quality is only at 720 by 480 right? also if you divide 720 by 480 you only get an aspect ratio of 1.5 not 1.78 which is widescreen. 1.why does premiere claim it to be 16×9?
2.Will I loose quality of my maya images using the dv widescreen preset?
    3. what Image size is recomended for the dv 24 widescreen preset?
    4. what pixel ratio should i use for an animation reel for job submissions?

You’ve got your specifications mixing together….

1280×720 is progressive HD, square pixels…and is 720 pixels vertically

DV…which is 720 pixels horizontally…720×480. DV is never square pixel. 4:3 picture aspect has a pixel aspect of .9 and 16:9 picture aspect has a pixel aspect of 1.2 (widescreen simply takes the pixels and makes them wider)

If you would like to use a 1280×720 framesize in PPro 2.0, you’d want to make a custom project and set the framesize to 1280×720 progressive uncompressed and set the edit mode to “desktop”.

Otherwise, Maya must be able to output non-square pixels right? Much lesser 3D programs can render in non-square pixels…
