    Hi,

Since a few weeks I have been making some tests from P2 card shots. The files are .mxf shot in 1280*720p and there is no way to work with them. I tried Cineform a few months ago to edit HDV files, the result was great so I tried again with the latest version I there is nothing to do. I open HDlink try to convert my files and the soft bugs each and every time. The guys from Cineform answered me quickly and suggested to download drivers from panasonic website, which I did but there is still no way to open the files either in Premiere or WMP and to convert them. What else should I do?
    Thanks
    Mat

    Mat,
Not only do you need the drivers for the P2 cards,
you need the P2 viewer installed. I’m not sure that
the newest P2 catalaging software works, so you will
have to get the “P2 viewer”. This program has the
DVCPro decoder that (my understanding) HDLink uses
to decode DVCPro files. The output from HDLink is
Cineform AVI files which should be viewable in WMP
and Premiere. In Premiere, you import the AVI files not
the P2 files.(at least until the next Adobe update)

You will want to make sure your settings are correct
for HDLink. Go to the Convert panel and click on the
Pref button at the bottom. Cineform has a good web
page describing the settings you need for 720p conversion.
Will say that I have had some crashes with HDLink,
but need to generate a test case for cineform support.

    Hope this helps

    Hello Mark,

What drives me crazy is that I installed four drivers or softwares from panasonic. There is the viewer, but it doesn’t work, I can’t read the files even when I make virtual P2 card. I don’t have any panasonic Hardware, is it a problem. Before buying or renting any I downloaded samples from the web on noladoc.com and asked friends to burn a DVD with native files. I dont’know what else could be working.

    Thanks anyway

When you say you can’t read the files what do you
mean. Are you trying to open the MXF files with
Premiere or WMP? These files are supported. The P2
Viewer should be able to view them, but I don’t use
that program much so I can’t be of help with it. HDLink
will convert the files to a CineForm AVI and these
files are readable by PPro and WMP.

Raylight will allow you to open the MXF files directly in Premiere, if you don’t want to wait. https://dvfilm.com/raylight
