ARRI RAW support
Posted by Bastiaan Houtkooper nsc on March 7, 2011 at 12:51 pmDid anybody hear anything about ARRI RAW support?
I know the ARRI SDK was delayed but may be there are some dates set already. (Most common answer being at NAB of course)
Would love to check my files on set with Resolve. Both Codex and S.TWO now deliver them and they look great.Resolve system:

March 7, 2011 at 2:38 pmOn Feb. 14th ARRI released the ALEXA Software Update Packet 3.0.
Before this there was no RAW Support on the camera.
As Jamie already wrote it should work in the actual Version of Resolve.Jens

March 7, 2011 at 4:35 pmYou can use Arri raw right now in Resolve!
At the moment you can adjust the color temperature and ISO of the shots by right clicking and then grade as normal.
Hope this helps!

March 7, 2011 at 4:43 pmThanks Dan, that is information that helped.
Still I get a serious green image and very low saturation, something I don’t see corrected with the controls or a simple LUT.
Is the latest color V3 setting/processing in?
(It does grab the metadata correctly.)Besides my questions I would like to congratulate BM for this incredible quick support for new technologies.
Hat off!Bastiaan

March 7, 2011 at 5:50 pmhave you checked out the Arri LUT Builder? Sounds like your issue is a LOG issue i.e. flat footage that I’m guessing your monitoring 709
Awesome tool, simply select the options you want and choose resolve as your system and then you have a display LUT for Log C footage coming off the camera/your recorder
here is the link (note you have to be registered. Just click the learn more button on the left hand side of the page

March 7, 2011 at 7:31 pmThanks Robbie, but I was involved in the process of testing the LUTs before it went online. I know a bit about it 🙂
Apparently you haven’t seen an .ARI file in Resolve. It is seriously of the scale.. (Talking Alexa RAW, not D21)

Yes I have. We’re doing a project shot all the Alexa next month and an Arri Rep I know gave me a ton of footage to test both ProRes and Raw, 709 and Log. But to be honest I haven’t spent a ton of time testing the RAW files as it looks like the project is going to go the ProRes route.
I’ll pull some of the RAW footage I have this afternoon and see if I’m getting the same results

March 9, 2011 at 12:20 amBastiaan – after a closer look I had similar results with the .ARI files. Not sure what the issue is, you mentioned firmware on the camera, I’m not sure what the version the shots I have to test came from. But I can say I’m seeing similar results. The ProRes Log stuff though looks fantastic!

March 9, 2011 at 4:54 pmJust had confirmation that the ARRI RAW SDK V3 has been released and shipped to partners, including Blackmagic. I hope we can see the results here soon.
For now we have to bring a bit of nuance to the statement:
Resolve supports ARRI RAW…….Yes it supports ARRI RAW from the D21 but not yet from V3 Alexa material.
(and that’s unofficial)🙂
