That would be interesting. In most of the cameras I am familiar the DSP processes the image in the RGB 4:4:4 colorspace to maximize the detail available to the processor. Only then is the footage downsampled to 4:2:2. I still wouldn’t be surprised if this were more an issue of market segmentation vs it being a technical challenge.

Certainly not saying the camera isn’t going to be great. It will be the picture that will tell and I am expecting big things from this little camera. This was important for me because there is a local rental shop with a CineAlta that doesn’t have HD-SDI out. I was hoping to refine this workflow with the HVX-200, and along the way it would have been great to occasionally maximize the quality available with this camera too.

Because of the use of pixelshift, which increases luma by taking away chroma rez, there never is a 4:4:4 RGB signal.

To record a DV “backup” recording as well as to P2 would require 2 Codecs. So “no” is the answer.

They certainly should, yes. You can configure the cam to output a 480i signal, even when shooting HD, and that component output works fine on monitors, so it should work fine as an input to a BetaSP deck.

Yes it does. The s-video and composite video ports will provide a live downconvert, and you can configure the component outputs to either display native, cross-converted, or downconverted signals.

Not possible. There’s a physical switch that reboots the camera into either tape mode, or P2 mode. When in P2 mode, the tape drive doesn’t even appear to exist to the camera. You can’t even eject the tape when in P2 mode! So no, no simultaneous recording possible.

No, it’s one or the other. You can’t transfer from tape to P2.
