  • Archiving Videotape to LTO Best Practices?

I’ve been charged with the task of backing up footage from Beta SP, DigiBeta, possibly HDCAM, etc. to LTO5 archive tape. These tapes are no longer used regularly and are being kept for posterity. We are still trying to figure out the best format to save the media in; in theory we may need to reference this video years from now. We edit on Avid – some thoughts have been to save the original video as a ProRes file, a jpeg sequence, things like that…but, will the format we’ve chosen be around still? Will it be playable by future systems? Do we need to keep a LTO drive and workstation in the corner somewhere that can view and manipulate this footage? Not sure if anyone else is working on something like this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jessey
