Architect Pro 5: Need to find how to use a screen capture as a button image in scene selection menu
Posted by Pikea Manley on July 2, 2009 at 2:26 amI feel retarded. On my last DVD I was able to use a few keystrokes to place a screen captured-image as the graphic in my scene selection menu. Now I can’t find the keystrokes in either the cheapo book included in the bundle or in the .pdf manual. Does anybody remember how to do this in DVD AP5?

July 2, 2009 at 3:07 amClick the Scene Selection button to highlight the image.
Click the Media tab in the menu on the right side of the screen.
Click the dropdown box in Thumbnail Media (right under Thumbnail Properties), select Replace…, browse to the folder containing the new image, click Open and you’re done. -

July 2, 2009 at 3:53 amMike, I’m actually going to give you a screen credit on this one ’cause I forgot to on the first one. Unfortunately, your solution isn’t the answer in this case, though all of your other help has been so damn useful.
But for this one there is a way to actually screen-capture the image from the workspace or timeline and then paste it in to the Scene Selection Menu. I read the tip in one of the manuals and for the life of me I can’t %&#*-ing find it now.

Thanks Pikea. It’s appreciated but not necessary.
“…is a way to actually screen-capture the image from the workspace or timeline…”
Ahh. That’s what you want to do 🙂
Open up the project in Vegas, place your cursor at the appropriate place on the timeline, set the preview window to Best/Full (for maximum quality), click the Save Snapshot to File icon just above the window (looks like a floppy disc) and choose a file type (I prefer PNG) and save location.
For slightly better quality, change your project properties to Progressive before you take the snapshot.
I place screen caps for this purpose in the location where my rendered DVD files are.
This way, when I’m loading them in DVDA, the screen caps are in the same folder so I don’t have to go looking for them.
Now you can follow the steps I outlined in the previous post. -

July 5, 2009 at 8:46 pmFINALLY got it figured out today. It’s one of those ‘how dumb iz ya?’ type of things.
Now I know that I read how to do this somewhere, I just can’t find where I did such.
Here’s how to set a thumbnail for the scene selection menu in a ‘quick n easy’ fashion: In the timeline, go to the chapter you are working on. Play the scene until you get to a frame you are happy with. Right click that chapter’s name in the project window and click “set thumbnail from view”. Instant gratification.
Thanks for all you do for us Vegas users, Mike!
