Appyling default transition to ENDS of clips

When I highlight a standalone clip, and press ctrl+D it does exactly what you’re asking. And if I cmd marquee to highlight just the transitions and press cmd+D it does exactly what you want.

How did you get it to NOT do what you want?

Just like when you’re applying it between two clips – and you’ve used your arrow selection/arrow tool to select where the transition is going to be applied – use the arrow tool to click the edge of the jpeg where the transition will be applied and then use your keyboard shortcut as you normally do. My guess is that you’re skipping the step of showing the program where to apply the transition by selecting the end of the jpeg clip with the selection tool.

What version of Premiere is that. And are you trying to center on edit, end on edit, or start on edit. I was assuming that you wanted to start on edit at the beginning, and end on edit at the end. IOW, not to extend the transition beyond the already existing boundary of the clip.

Maybe you’re not on CC 7.1 In 7.1 this has all changed. You don’t have to worry about patching tracks or where your playhead is or any of that. Just highlight the clips or edit points and press cmd/ctrl D.

For some reason when you’re hitting the selection tool on the end of clip, it’s selecting the whole clip instead of just the end. I’m in CS6, so it could be different in previous versions, but in CS6 you can select the whole clip, or just the beginning or just the end of a clip – which doesn’t highlight the whole clip as it is shown in your video. Are you not able to only select the end of the clip – demarcated by a red bracket?

In CC 7, to highlight the transition points (end of clips) hold down cmd or ctrl (PC) and draw a marquee around the transition points. Then press cmd+d.

What version are you on?

Ooo.. Yeah, that’s gonna cost you $375 for that function.. I just launched CS5.5, which I still have on my system, and it does not allow you to do this..

I’m not sure if I follow, Casey- what’s $375? Is that the cost of the new Premiere? Now let me ask you this, broseph: do you think the upgrade to the new premiere is worth it?

I’ve always wondered… 5.5 is the only one I’ve ever used, so I don’t know how ambitious new adobe releases are.

Yeah, it’s $375 to upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 (or at least it was when I did it). For me, CS5.5 ended up being practically worthless as I use multicam a bunch, not to mention it seemed like there was a problem like you’ve pointed out around every corner. I jumped from FCP7 over to FCPX for a second when they released multicam, but that didn’t last long. I personally do a lot of finishing in After Effects, so the dynamic link option is perfect for me in CS6 BUT! there’s no way to flatten multicam sequences in CS6 (it is an option in CC) and the work around for getting the clips to AE through dynamic link is very cumbersome. So I’m personally wondering if they’ve got me by the you know what, and I’ll be switching to CC soon (important note, I can still effect/color individual edits as long as I stay inside Premier).. And I complain about this, but just think of a few years ago when were messing around with automatic duck and jumping through way more hoops to get to a coloring program, so I shouldn’t complain.

That’s all a long winded way of saying for me, CS6 is a very well rounded NLE that I can’t find any holes in except the dynamic link to After Effects. CS5.5 however, is unusable for me.
