  • Applying material to one side of a loft nurb and not the other

    Hello,

So, I’ve made this road using 2 splines and a loft nurb. A camera follows the road.

What I want to do is just be able to see the one side of the road when rendered. For example, the background and the underside of the road will be black (invisible), and only the top surface of the road will be white (visible).

How can I achieve this? I’m guessing turn it to an editable object, select all the faces on one side and apply a material. Then select all the other faces and add another material to them. But that sounds tricky, and frustrating even thinking about it!

Depends how you set it up. If you are lucky C1 will be one side and C2 is the other. (those go in the selection of the texture.)

If you are unlucky, Use a gradient with your colors in it with no ramping you do this by opening the gradient up and swapping the knot type from smooth knot to NONE. then its just aligning it.

you can also use two textures one to go on the Front and one on the Back (Texture tag/Tag/Side settings)

They are the CAPS on the loft nurds object.
Drop a texture on it and in the material:tag:selection write C1 and see where the texture ends up.

this explained well in the help under nurbs

    Sorted!

With the coloured material applied to the object select the material in the object panel and choose ‘Side > Back’

Apply the second material to the same object and choose ‘Side > Front’

    ..or vice versa.

    Thanks guys.

I might have been better duplicating the nurbs and then extending them out and colouring them black as I’m going to have to give the impression of hills anyway. Oh well, this’ll come in handy anyway I’m sure 🙂
