There was a long thread recently on this forum on someone who had an Apple XServe RAID, and he was getting dropped frames. I had him run Kona System test, and he reported very poor performance.

Well, today, my client (who owns 2 Apple XServe RAID’s), has the same issue. They started to get dropped frames (using uncompressed HD) on a 14 drive XServe RAID on a Kona 2 system with dual 2.7 MAC G5 10.4.3. The XServe RAID is RAID 50, and is only about 10% full. Thanks to AJA Kona System Test, I was able to find that this EXPENSIVE drive array, which shows no errors in it’s front panel, RAID Admin, Disk Utility, or anywhere else – can only get max 100mb/sec (while their other identical XServe RAID can do over 240mb/sec, and it’s 60% full !). Without AJA Kona System test, I could never have found this problem.

As we attempt to get help from Apple, it reminds me over and over of two words – HUGE MEDIAVAULT !
