The wireless drive on a Time capsule is great for file storage, and data backups but you will probably experience difficulties if you try and play a video file that is located on a wireless drive.

[James Carroccio] “or should i go with apple mybook? “

Do you mean a western digital myBook, All I can say about those is I knew a guy that had 3 fail on him right out of the box.

I can tell you it’s not friendly with the Mac yet. I owned the 1TB model for three days. First day it installed and worked as it should. That is, it was connected via Ethernet to one machine and two others could see / use it wirelessly.

Day 2, I had to re-set up the Time Capsule for whatever reason. All the setup dialogue popped up. Only this time, it could not get on my network, only the hard wired Ethernet machine worked.

Day 3, Time Capsule disappeared completely from all Macs.

I returned it to the Apple Store and was told that staying on the network has been problematic for the units. So I purchased three stand alone drives for our workstations instead and ended up saving $150 in the process.

I’ve been meaning to post a blog about this and will tonight.

OK, in contrast to Walter here is my experience:-

    Plugged it in
    Set up
Backed everything up with time machine on 3 computers
    Got Iphone on wifi

    Forgot about it

The only thing I’d say I would change is having the disk images at root

Time Capsule seems to really be hit and miss with people. I’ve had mine about a week and it’s worked perfectly. Have two laptops backing up to it.

I did read that it should be set up as the main base station if you have more than one. Good thing because I wasn’t going to set mine up that way.
