  • Apple MacBook Pro 15″ Retina USB3 SXS Card Transfer speed

I have a late 2012 Macbook Pro 15″ Retina. I have used this computer on many jobs connected to USB3 Drives without issue. Today I have an issue with a USB3 Sony SBAC-US20 SXS Card Reader.

Through XDCAM transfer I am getting only x0.6 transfer speeds from 32GB SXS Cards with XDCAM 50MB 422 footage. I have another computer running the same version of XDCAM Transfer, its a non retina late 2012 macbook pro, this computer gives a transfer speed with the same drive and card of x16.

It’s not an XDCAM transfer issue as at finder level transfers are also very slow. It’s not the reader as it works fine on other computers. It appears to be the USB bus speed on the retina that is at fault.

The system profile is stating that the drive is connecting at ‘SuperSpeed’ speeds:

    USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Bus:

    Host Controller Location: Built-in USB
    Host Controller Driver: AppleUSBXHCI
    PCI Device ID: 0x1e31
    PCI Revision ID: 0x0004
    PCI Vendor ID: 0x8086
    Bus Number: 0x14

    SBAC-US20:

    Product ID: 0x0827
    Vendor ID: 0x054c (Sony Corporation)
    Version: 0.01
    Serial Number: 0DFFC000294B
    Speed: Up to 5 Gb/sec
    Manufacturer: Sony
    Location ID: 0x14900000 / 3
    Current Available (mA): 900
    Current Required (mA): 224
    Capacity: 32.04 GB (32,044,482,560 bytes)
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: Yes
    BSD Name: disk2
    Partition Map Type: Unknown
    S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported

I am away at the moment with no other USB3 drives or readers to help problem solve this one. If anyone has any ideas I would welcome them. I have of course tried shutting down and restarting but to no success.
