Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro
This is kind of pertaining to the update …
I have hung onto my Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro Folder (checked and license was in perpetuity with FCP7 so think I’m on safe ground as I am still running FCP7. I successfully imported Apple loops for Soundtrack Pro into previous iterations but in this update they have disappeared and I would like to import them again.
Where should I pick so that they appear for every project and don’t have to import into a specific Event every time?
Ideally I’d like them all to be just sitting there as they were before.
Any thoughts?

Hi James,
I’d recommend creating a specific library for your loops and then have that sitting in the background for when you want to drag them into your current library / event. I do this for my stockpile of BBC sound effects.
How are you getting on with 10.3 apart from this issue? Can’t wait to install this update but need to finish a large project first.

Haven’t quite got to grips with the roles functionality yet but getting there and looks promising. Not sure I’ve noticed any downside other than my eyes don;t seem to like the UI being like nighttime all the time.

I’ve ever really embraced roles but think this new iteration could get me involved in the workflow.
Generally 10.3 looks like a rich reward for those who have persevered with FCPX through all it’s changes since its fitful birth all those years ago.

Absolutely but it also kind of reinforces the view of the people who said it was software ‘in development” and not fit for purpose.
Thanks for that excellent tip again. Feeling like it’s a much better solution than before already.

I brought all the loops into iTunes as well as all my other sound effects libraries. Now when I need to do some sound design, I open iTunes and audition what I want. When I find an FX I like, I just drag it into a bin/event called sound effects.

In Itunes it did not seem to organise them be folder when I tried this whereas a new Library creates a nice bunch of Keyword collections so you can still find everything according to what folder they were in.
I may not be that proficient with Itunes however.

I tagged everything as I added so they show up as albums, sort of like folders. Plus I can search in iTunes with a few words and it finds things for me. I can make smart playlists to search. Like you can in FCPX but everything lives in one place.

I think I’m being a bit of a berk with this Itunes. How exactly do you add these files as my version dos not seem to like the file format of the loops.

I copied the Loops into one of the two “proper working” folders (“Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects” and/or “Final Cut Pro Sound Effects”). After e few seconds of indexing, the loops appeared as expected.

This worked for me wth previous version but the folder does not appear when I drop it it into either of these folders in version 3.0
Is either one preferable?
