Apple Display alternatives
Posted by Ivo Burum on September 11, 2009 at 7:11 amHi all -the new Apple displays work a treat – but we can’t afford them in numbers – can anyone suggest a cheaper 24 inch alternative that will do the job just as well ? Many thanks.

September 11, 2009 at 10:09 amLast year many people bought the “Dell 2048 WFP Ultrasharp”.
Some quality than the Apple but better price.
Now may be something better.
Cheers,

The Dells are what we primarily run here, essentially the same as the original Apple displays but much cheaper. Now I will say those new Apple LED displays are just incredible. I am saving up here now to replace at least one monitor in each of our suites with one of those LEDs and then we’ll run the Dell as the secondary monitor.

September 11, 2009 at 12:27 pmHi walter,
I know that you are always updated about monitors.
What do you think about the HP Dream Color?
Have you tried or had any feedback?
Cheers,

No hurry but I have to start to save for an HD monitor. “I won’t be using for that if I were to purchase it and I don’t recommend those either. They were designed for animation and 3D work, not video playback. The cheapest display I recommend are the Panasonic Pro Plasma series, around $900 for the 42″ model.
If you want accurate color for grading, then the FSI 1760W model.

September 11, 2009 at 1:07 pmI will be getting a DreamColor paired with an AJA HDP2 as a demo to finally replace my trusty HD CRT. I’ll let you know how it goes. True 12 bit monitoring for about 3K US. Too good to be true?

Be sure to look over the very LONG thread in the Color forum regarding the setup of that monitor….. Too much for me. I’ll stick with the FSI’s that come all set up and ready to go out of the box.

Just heard from my VAR that he will hopefully have one very soon and if he does, he’ll bring it out here to look at. I’ll give you a shout if / when it’s here.
