anyone using 5d Mark II footage with the MXO2 box?
Hey Guys,
I’m on a macbook…soon to get a macpro and I can’t get my LM-1760 display (thanks Walter!) to show real time playback of 5d footage that I’ve transcoded to prores. It’s in a 1080 seq…I’ve played with settings, including interlacing, to no avail.
When I press play, the laptop plays the footage back in the canvas…but the image on my monitor hooked up HD-SDI from my Matrox MXO2 card just displays a still image…it updates if I scrub but doesn’t playback.
Any ideas?

Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices

Sorry Shane,
I’m referring to FOOTAGE from the Mark II. It comes out of the camera in a QT container with the h264 codec…I transcoded to prores and am having this issue.

I know what you are referring to. You have footage from the Canon that you smartly converted to ProRes, but this ProRes footage will not display on an external monitor via your MXO2. I have outlined several thing to check to make sure they are set properly so that you can view the footage properly. Sometimes VIEW>EXTERNAL is set on OFF or STILL FRAME (by default in some occasions). Sometimes FCP loses the connection with the captre card, so a REFRESH is in order.
Also make sure that you have the proper VIEW>VIDEO PLAYBACK option set….ProRes 1080i 29.97 10-bit 422.

Everything is right with the exception of the view->video playback
I don’t have 1080i 29.97…I only 1080i 59.94 8 or 10 bit YUV.
But it is playing back 1080i footage from my HDV cam correctly. Just not the Mark II footage.

In my transcode settings in Export->Using QT conversion…I did select the frame rate to be 29.97.

If it is PRO RES then the setting should be 1080i 59.94 10 bit.

Wait…is your ProRes 1440×1080 or 1920×1080?

Pro-Res is 1920×1080…like the footage coming from the Mark II camera.
It is a known issue with the MXO2 that 10 bit doesn’t work, so you have to output with 8 bit.
These are my settings…but still no playback, only scrub updates to my monitor.

That is complete hogwash. I monitor, and capture, ProRes 422 quite a bit, and that is 10-bit. If it didn’t do 10 bit it wouldn’t be a viable product. But it does, so something else is afoot.

you might well have a setting wrong some where like 30.000 vs 29.97. now if you are not shooting sync sound, changing the 5D footage from 30 to 29.97 shouldn’t make any real difference.
also the MXO2 needs to match the TL settings for output.
