  Anyone successfully used AMD cards for the MPE in CS6?

  I want to upgrade my GPU (OC’d GTX560 Ti), and I value both performance in the Mercury Playback Engine and in gaming. Unfortunately, the Nvidia 600 series kinda sucks in the former application (Okay, it doesn’t suck, but it isn’t near the performance increase one would expect). All 600 series cards are outperformed by the 580 in compute power. The 700 series is based on Kepler architecture, so that likely won’t work out well either for MPE.

  Adobe has already said that a whole host of AMD cards will play nice with MPE for the CC version of PP. But CS6 is still stuck with Nvidia cards (and two measly AMD cards IFF you happen to be editing on a MacBook Pro).

  Obviously I don’t want to spend $240 on a CC subscription so I can buy a cheaper GPU, so that option is out.

  Has anyone unlocked their AMD GPU and used it in MPE? Bonus points if you’ve used the 7970, which is the model I’m considering.
