September 16, 2011 at 12:32 amI have been running the BVM in my grading suite for just over a month (along with the Panny VT20 client monitor) and were the first in Australia to have one, ordered it way back in April after seeing a demo alongside a CRT and LCD (both Sony).
Haven’t had a single person not mention the quality of the picture. It really is incredible!
Viewing angle seems slightly better than the LCD but not as good as a CRT, but the quality of the image definitely surpasses the CRT.
The difference between the BVM and the PVM is 12vs10bit and although the panel is the same some of the electronics driving it are slightly different apparently?
I’d recommend the BVM if you can afford it for grading and the PVM for your VFX suites. But the price difference is massive!

September 16, 2011 at 5:23 pmHey Danny
Do you have any experience with the 10-bit Flanders? It comes in at a price point that’s close to the Sony PVM. Also, I was under the impression that the PVM had a 10-bit driver, but have been unable to confirm if its a 10 bit display as well (this could be due to a lack of my Google skills though). The Flanders I know for sure has both a 10-bit driver and display.

September 16, 2011 at 5:42 pmHey Dan,
what kind of calibration did you have on OLED? I have read in Sony website that it supports colomiters/probes (x-rite for now). But it seas it does not include software. What was your option to get the accurate image out of it?I am looking forward to get one of OLEDs soon. Appreciate the answers, Pro Sony support in my country is not so good and they do not have the anser.

September 19, 2011 at 1:46 amHey Dane, when discussing the difference between the monitors with the Sony rep he told me the Panel is the exact same type and its the drivers behind it that are different.
So guessing the panels are able to display 12bit if you have the higher model and scales it down to 10bit for the cheaper version.
Haven’t used or seen the Flanders but there seems to be a lot of good press around it.Danny Scotting – Senior Colourist

September 19, 2011 at 2:02 amHey Teo, Sony supplied someone with a probe to calibrate our OLED when they set it up.
The monitor itself does not have the software installed but there are a range of test patterns in the remote (BKM16R) that we were able to display for probing.
Apparently Sony Precallibrate the monitors in the factory and to be honest it needed only a couple of minor tweaks.
I intend to use Sony’s man for any upcoming tweaks and will ask him to have a look every three months or so. Rather leave it to the professionals as I have little experience on the calibration side of things!

D”Hello,
the Flanders LM-2461W is not a true native 10 bit panel.
It is 8bit panel with advanced FRC algorithm to give you very close simulation of “10bit” panel.
This doesn’t mean it is not good monitor, quite contrary,
but for the sake of facts and truth,
it is not true native 10bit panel.it is also stated on their website
