Anyone here use a Dell 2005FPW?
Posted by Noam Osband on June 20, 2011 at 5:26 pmI’m thinking of getting this as a second monitor: https://www.amazon.com/UltraSharp-2005FPW-20-1-inch-Monitor-Adjustable/dp/B0009IPTJU
Anyone use one? Any thoughts on it? i’d be using it for footage that is HD, 1920X1080.
thanks in advance….

June 21, 2011 at 2:48 amI didn’t know this about the Dells. All the Dell Ultrasharp’s are a bit off with color calibration? There is no way to rectify it? I guess it’s not th ekind of monitor you’d use for post production anyways….

Noam,
Though I spent lots and lots of time calibrating them with two very, very expensive professional probes (my own eyeballs), I managed to get my two Dell 2804 UltraSharps so close that they were almost precisely right on the money when compared side by side with the top of the line broadcast monitor from Flanders Scientific.
I held a demo at my place staring Bram Desmet and his LM-2461W, and we had a Pany Pro, a Pany Broadcast monitor, a Sony 20″ SD broadcast monitor, and my Dells all fired up, side by side. Amazingly, my Dells and my Pany Pro were all “close enough for government work” as the old saying goes.
So, don’t listen when people tell you can’t get Dells close. Just take your time, use color bars, use shots with good skin tones that you trust, and work at it until you get it right. You’ll get it close enough that no client will ever wonder what the heck they should be looking at.
